Sergio Larrain: Valparaíso

A notorious reclusive artist, Chilean photographer Sergio Larrain (1931 - 2012) had a relative short career. In the late 1960s he retreated to the Chilean countryside to study meditation. Nevertheless he is widely celebrated. He produced two of the most seductive photobooks to emerge from Latin America. One of them is Valparaíso. The work for Valparaíso began in 1957, but was first published in 1991. After publication Larrain made a new layout, reflecting how he would have constructed the book. This new layout was published in 2017 for the first time, and is now reprinted. Valparaíso is now considered as one of the greatest photobooks of all time.
