Photographer Raymond Meeks' view on migration
In the summer of 2022 Raymond Meeks followed refugees crossing rivers, forests and wastelands from Southern Spain to the Northern French coast on the outskirts of Calais. The resulting photobook, The Inhabitants, shows not the men but the landscape they travel through and the obstacles they encounter on their way. The traces left by their passage, the ruins of their temporary shelter and the nature that protected them. It seemed, to me, impossible to unite a topic like migration with Meeks' poetic style. Nevertheless, he pulls it off. Aided by an extended poem by George Weld.
