Summer Nights, Walking

The nocturnal scenes of Robert Adams in Summer Nights, Walking

In the mid 1970s, Robert Adams began recording nocturnal scenes near his former home in Longmont, Colorado. Illuminated by moonlight and streetlamp, suburban houses, roads, sidewalks and fields seemed utterly transfigured. In 2009, twenty-five years after its first publishing of these pictures in 1985 as Summer Nights, he revisited this project. He changed its title to Summer Nights, Walking while completely reaequencing and adding to its contents. The result is more disquieting and better reflects what it is like to walk at night. Soon after its publication in 2009 it went out of print. Now a new edition makes this classic available for a new audience.
