Todd Hido (born 1968 in Kent, Ohio) is well known for his photography of suburban houses at night, interiors, roads and open landscapes. His use of detail and luminous color is also striking. Hido’s photographs can be described as cinematic and dreamlike, emphasizing atmosphere and the emotional charge of ordinary settings. He has published numerous photobooks, and is an avid photo book collector.

Hido has also a deep interest in vernacular photography and found imagery. He collects magazine clippings, postcards, and everyday photographs. Examples of this can also be found in Intimate Distance.

Intimate Distance gathers his most iconic images. Along with many unpublished works it provides the most complete and comprehensive monograph charting his career. The images in the book appear in the chronological order in which they were made. David Campany introduces the work. And Katya Tylevich writes about the making of each of Hido’s major monographs including among others House Hunting (2001), Outskirts (2002) and The End Sends Advance Warning (2024).
